I am sharing a paint project in my craft room as part of a sponsored post for BEHR paints.
I have a mega awesome announcement to make today! If you have been reading my blog for a while or know me well then the answer is… NO I am not pregnant. Now that we cleared that up I have been chosen to be a part of the 2015 BEHR DIY Expert Team. I am overjoyed. I have a list of projects from interior painting and decorating to holiday crafts that will all include BEHR paints. One of the most exciting parts about being a part of the team is that I will be joined by a group of other amazing and inspiring bloggers to bring you the hottest trends and best tutorials.
We moved into our current house last November and while the color palette of tans, dusty blues and pumpkin pie orange work well together they aren’t entirely me. I gave it a chance to see if it would grow on me but found myself more and more unhappy. The room that I find myself most unhappy with is my office+craft room space. We have a finished exposed basement where our family spends most of our time. My craft space is right at the bottom of the stairs and the walls are pumpkin pie orange. Trying to get into my creative zone or take pictures for blogging are nearly impossible with the reddish tint it adds to everything. Another problem with the darker color is that the basement already lacks sunlight and it becomes dark and depressing after a while. When I am trying to bust through a to-do list that is the last problem I need!
Then pastels, light neutrals and gold take center stage and my office+craft room starts to take shape. I can’t wait to show you how I made these fun frames with gold lettering. They have quickly become my favorite part of the space.
Below are a few ‘before’ pictures of my office+craft room and as I’m sure you can tell the pumpkin pie burnt umber color can get overwhelming after a while. Don’t mind my mess. Isn’t there some saying about messes getting bigger before they get better? I actually haven’t started putting this wall back together since painting but I will be sharing a full reveal of it soon.
I picked up two sample size paints and brought them home to try. When I painted them on I instantly felt that both of them were too close to white but after a week I decided I wanted to go ahead with BEHR Spun Wool. The Spun Wool is a greige type color that mixes well with the other colors in the space and I knew it would highlight all of the pastel and gold decorations as well as the dark wood from my desk and shelves.
Remember what my craft space used to look like in our old house? {A reminder pictures below} I loved the neutral color of the walls and all of the natural sunlight that flooded the space so I am trying to get back to that.
DIY Pastel Frames with Adhesive Vinyl Lettering-
- BEHR Paint – Matte Interior (The paint colors I used are below)
- BB Frosch Chalk Powder
- Paint brush
- Newspaper or surface to paint on
- Frames
- White cardstock
- Gold vinyl and vinyl transfer tape
- Vinyl cutting machine (I used my Silhouette Cameo)
Directions
- Mix BEHR matte interior laytex paint with BB Frosch chalk powder to create chalk paint according to directions.
- Paint the frames on flat protecte surface. Depending on the frame and paint colors you may need multiple coats. I did three coats allowing the paint to completely dry in between each coat.
- Using a vinyl cutting machine cut out desired words or designs onto gold vinyl and then use vinyl transfer tape to apply it to white cardstock. For a full tutorial on using transfer tape go HERE.
- Once the paint is dry on the frames and the vinyl has been applied to the cardstock put the cardstock in the frame and hang them up!
Here are the BEHR paint colors I used for the frames and for the walls.
It is a bit hard to see the metallic features of the gold vinyl in these pictures but it changes at different angles. Each time I have walked by it I have stopped to admire how this area turned out. I can’t wait until I am done with the entire office+craft area so I can show the full reveal. I still have to repaint my desk, paint a few other accessories to go with the new color palette and I am incorporating some new storage solutions. Tons of excitement but in the meantime I am already over working in a mini construction zone.
Now I will let you swoon in pastel and gold goodness… go ahead I have plenty of pictures. Who knew what a little gold adhesive vinyl could do to some plain white cardstock!?
If you haven’t seen the group of other bloggers on the 2015 BEHR DIY Expert Team yet head to Colorfully, BEHR to meet them now! I truly have to pinch myself when I think about all of the creativity this group brings to the table.
Enjoy,

I love pumpkin pie, but don't know about it on the walls, haha. I also love bright rooms and it's amazing how much paint can change the way you feel when you walk into a space. Love the transformation and your old workspace too!

I totally adore the peach and coral colors on the frame - and they are perfect with the metallic gold. Just a perfect makeover - can't wait to follow along with your projects.
