If you are hosting a party, especially in the hot summer months, a batch of Whiskey Slushes is sure to please a crowd! It makes a huge batch and I have yet to find someone who doesn’t like them! I plan to make a batch of Whiskey Slushes for Fourth of July weekend. I am picky when it comes to alcohol – I don’t like beer or anything that has a strong liquor taste. I prefer fruity frozen drinks and since you don’t need a blender for these I will be carrying around my little bucket of Whiskey Slush!
The recipe is super simple but you will need to allow 24-48 hours for the slushes to freeze and you will need some sort of plastic container or bucket to freeze them in. It is made using orange juice concentrate, lemonade concentrate, tea bags, sugar, water and whiskey. When serving you fill a glass one half to three quarters full with the slush mixture and top it off with 7-UP. Stir and slurp!!
Whiskey Slush Recipe
- (1) 11.5-12 ounce frozen orange juice concentrate
- (2) 11.5-12 ounce frozen lemonade concentrate
- 4 tea bags
- 2 cups of granulated sugar
- 3 cups whiskey
- 9 cups of water
- 7UP or Sprite
- Remove frozen OJ and lemonade concentrates from the freezer and place on the counter so they start to thaw.
- Boil two cups of water and steep with 4 tea bags. Then remove tea bags, stir in sugar until dissolved, set aside and allow to cool.
- Pour the tea mixture into a large pitcher and stir in remaining 7 cups of water, OJ concentrate, lemonade concentrate and whiskey and stir until concentrates are dissolved. (The concentrates don’t have to be completely thawed)
- Then pour the mixture into one a container and freeze for 24-48 hours. (See my notes below) The alcohol will keep the mixture from freezing solid and will keep it slushy.
- To serve fill a glass 1/2 to 3/4 of the way with slush (depending on your personal preference) and then top it off with 7UP or Sprite. Stir and serve!
We have always talked about freezing these in a bucket sort of like the premade buckets of margarita mix you can buy at stores and taking it with us down to the beach or pool – I think I might just have to try it this year!
