Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial

Last week I shared how to make a bow holder and today I am showing you how to make a cute little bow to add to the collection! My daughter Delilah was born with a head full of hair (which is only fair since I had TONS of heartburn with her). Since I have two older boys I didn’t know how crazy I would go over trying to find a hair accessory to match every outfit she has. Seriously friends – if we are going out and she doesn’t have anything to match I will rummage around in my stash of supplies and whip it up! These cute little velvet ribbon bow clips are so simple that it makes it hard not to! Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial First you will need your supplies:

  • Alligator Clips (I got these at Walmart for $2 for a pack of 10)
  • Ribbon the width of your clips
  • Another ribbon for your bow (this one can be a bit wider)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Lighter

Start by using a lighter to seal the end of a piece of ribbon. Starting underneath the top of the clip attach it using hot glue and then we are going to do this all the way around the clip. (See pictures) Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Right before you glue the last part of the ribbon measure it and trim to the right length and seal. Then glue it down so it fits perfectly. Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Now that your clip is covered you are ready to make the bow. Take your velvet ribbon (or whatever ribbon you picked) and cut it to length. You want it to be a little more than double the size of your clip so you can have a spot where it overlaps and you can glue the ends together. Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Once you get it cut to the correct size you want to seal the ends with the lighter. Then place a bit of hot glue where the two ends overlap and another so that the bottom part sticks to the top. You want to make sure to glue the top to the bottom so that the bow doesn’t slide around and look off center when you are finished. Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Now we are going to take another piece of the velvet ribbon and wrap it around the middle to cover up where you glued. Cut it so that there is a little extra for the ends to overlap again. Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Line the ribbon clip with glue and attach your bow to the top. Now you have a super simple, easy and cheap hair accessory you can do in any color you would like! Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip Tutorial Velvet Ribbon Hair Clip TutorialEnjoy,

These are super cute and most of the time I get now where I don't even cover the clip and it looks so much neater, seeing how I either A. burn myself, or B. get glue everywhere!
