I will be completely honest here – I am not a big fan of apple pie. The real apple pie. I think it is the mushy apples that just don’t appeal to me. However, my mom makes a killer Apple Dumpling which I’ll share another day. A few weeks ago my husband made some apple pie. Not the usual apple pie I was referring to. The apple pie drink – a drink that tastes just like apple pie without the mushy apples!! Now this drink is only for adults because it is an alcoholic beverage. (Now that I’m thinking about it – you could probably try this without the alcohol and have the next best thing!!) I’m not a drinker either. Me + Alcohol = Sleepy Kelsey
BUT this is great in small amounts (if you are me of course). It is a sweet, cinnamon, apple goodness. My husband prefers to warm his up in a saucepan before drinking, and I prefer to add ice to mine. Hot or cold it is so yummy!
Oh you want the recipe now? Okay! You will need:
- 1 gallon apple cider
- 1 gallon apple juice
- 7 cups of sugar
- 10 cinnamon sticks
- 1 bottle grain alcohol (a little of this will take you a LONG way)
In a LARGE pot bring the apple cider and apple juice to a rolling boil. Then add the sugar and cinnamon sticks. Stir until all of the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat until the mixture is room temperature. Add alcohol and then bottle. We used canning jars! Then refrigerate until your ready to drink. (My husband put one cinnamon stick in each jar, or you can remove them for less of a cinnamon taste.)
What a great fall drink! Perfect for a football game, fall gathering, or even at Thanksgiving (granted all the guests have a DD).
