A few weeks ago we had an impromptu fall themed family night. My husband and I both had the day off and wanted to carve pumpkins, watch Hocus Pocus and make a night of fun for the boys. We made a list of quick and fun activities we could put together and headed out to Target. We returned home with ingredients for momma’s chili, cornbread and candy apples. We grabbed some donuts and pumpkins too. While I made chili the guys chopped wood for a fire and tied strings onto the donuts. I also whipped up a quick scavenger hunt list on the computer using things we already had around the house. The night was an overall success but the candy apples were a huge fail! I used my candy thermometer and followed a recipe I found online but they were so sticky that it would rip a tooth out. If you need some candy cement I’ll be happy to share the recipe with you. Mason fell alseep soon after the pumpkins were carved and Wyatt joined us around the fire. When we asked him what his favorite part about the evening was he of course said it was the no hand donut eating. I would agree – they were being so funny and little cheaters too! It doesn’t always take a bunch of money or big plans to create great family memories.
