Do you love French Onion Soup? French Onion Soup is one of my all time faves, so it would come as no surprise that I also love this Au Gratin Onion recipe. The Au Gratin Onions make a great side dish and go great with steak or surf n’ turf.
When I was growing up my Grandma and Grandpa owned a summer spot in Lake Mills, WI. My entire family would go up there on the weekends and we would all enjoy the lake, family, and good food. One of their neighbors brought this dish over, and my mom has been making in ever since.
Au Gratin Onion Ingredients
- 6 onions
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1/2 cup mozzarela/parmesan cheese blend
- 1/2 cup parmesan (in the shake bottle)
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 cup of beef broth
Thinly slice all of your onions and sauté them in the butter until tender. Then place them in an oven safe dish.
In another bowl mix broth, milk, and flour. Pour the milk mixture over the onions.
Spread the cheeses on top and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
To make the prep easier I use an adjustable mandoline which cuts the onion slicing time in half.
