DIY Fourth of July Sign – Wood and Vinyl

My son Mason turns six on July 1st and this year we decided to have a July 4th themed birthday party. I already love decorating for the patriotic holidays throughout summer but this year I am stepping up the Red White and Blue crafting game to use as party decorations too. I want there to be a little bit of Red, White or Blue all around the house. I’m sharing a tutorial for a Fourth of July sign you can easily make yourself using a cutting machine (Cricut or Silhouette), adhesive vinyl and a few simple craft supplies.

This sign was inspired by the free  Fourth of July printable I shared earlier this week over at See Vanessa Craft. I changed a few things to the text layout and used my silhouette cameo to cut out the design onto white vinyl.

Fourth of July Sign Supplies Needed:

-scrap piece of wood
-acrylic paint
-paint brush or foam brush
adhesive vinyl
-vinyl cutting machine (I used my Silhouette Cameo)
vinyl Transfer paper
-fine grit sand paper

Fourth of July Sign Directions:

  • Paint a piece of wood with your desired paint color and allow to dry.
  • Lightly sand the board to remove any paint strokes or imperfections so that the vinyl will adhere nicely.
  • Cut your design onto vinyl with a vinyl cutting machine and then apply it to vinyl transfer paper.
  • Using transfer paper apply the vinyl design onto the board.

The possibilities with vinyl and wood signs are literally endless. My pine board is from a scrap piece of wood leftover from my mantel redo. I had my dad cut the leftover piece into a bunch of smaller pieces so I could make signs from them.

I just love how the sign turned out and it will be the perfect addition to all of the other Red, White and Blue decorations going up all around our home.

Do you decorate for the Fourth of July?
