Garage Sale Mirror Redo – Behr Key Largo

A few months ago I went garage sale shopping with my mother and sister-in-law and we all found some great stuff. I love the town we live in because it has been around for a while and it seems like there are always some good finds. The town we used to live in was more of a retirement community started around 15 years ago. Garage sale finds were far and few between because everyone was fairly new to the area. My thought was that most people sold their old {good} stuff before moving there.

I spent about $30 the day we went garage sale searching and came home with a whole bunch of stuff. I bought a chair on rollers, large mirror, a few pairs of shorts for my boys, a large basket, vintage books, muffin tins and a few other odds and ends. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen the loot.

The snagged this mirror for $5. It is a large, heavy mirror framed in real wood. I wanted to put the mirror above the mantel I redid but the dark wood was too dark. I wanted it to pop and make a statement against the white mantel.

Here are the supplies I used:

  • Paintbrush
  • Painter’s tape
  • Behr Key Largo interior paint
  • BB Frösch
  • Empty jar

I started by wiping down the mirror as it was a little dirty and dusty. I mixed my Behr Key Largo paint (seriously LOVE this color!!) with BB Frosch chalk powder in an old mason jar. I have been mixing all my chalk paints that way so I can put the lid on my leftovers and save them for other projects. I used painter’s tape around the edges of the mirror so I wouldn’t paint ON the actual mirror. Then I applied two coats of paint. I peeled the tape off and then cleaned the mirror.

The pop of color and the height the mirror gives was just what the mantel needed. I have never owned a $5 mirror that looked so dang good. If you want to see the picture overload just keep scrolling down. See the mantel redo HERE.

Enjoy,
