Ultimate Red White and Blue Ice Pops and Party

Three Cheers for the Red White and Blue! I have teamed up with LOTS of other bloggers to bring you the ULTIMATE Red, White and Blue Roundup! My contribution to the roundup is a recipe for Red White and Blue Ice Pops! If you haven’t been able to tell by now we have been on a serious popsicle making kick at our house. The boys LOVE making them and eating them. When they help me make popsicles it helps to teach them measurements, cause and effect and cooking skills so who am I to say no to a kid who wants to help in the kitchen? These popsicles were inspired by the patriotic holidays throughout the summer months and they are SUPER easy to make! We used a powdered lemonade mix, powdered Kool-Aid packet and fresh strawberries! Due to the three layers they will take the better part of a day to make as you have to pour and freeze each layer before adding another. RED WHITE AND BLUE ICE POP RECIPE:

1 pint lemonade (we used powdered Country Time made according to directions)
1 packet Berry Kool-Aid (or other blue Kool-Aid flavor for the blue layer)
1 quart water
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
Popsicle Molds and Sticks
1/2 cup diced fresh strawberries

Mix Kool-Aid packet, water and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Set aside.
Pour lemonade into first 1/3 of the mold and pop in the freezer for 1.5-2 hours. Remove from freezer and stick in popsicle sticks. (Lemonade layer should be mostly frozen but still a bit slushy allowing you to push popsicle stick in. Timing may vary depending on your freezer.)
Pour blue Kool-Aid filling another third of each mold. Return to freezer for another 1.5-2 hours until layer has frozen.
For the last layer remove the mold and fill the remaining third of the molds with fresh strawberries. Pour lemonade over the strawberries to the top of the mold and freeze again. Then enjoy!

My notes:: You will have Kool-Aid leftover but it will most likely be too sugary to drink. To avoid letting it go to waste just add one cup of water at a time until it is just the way you like it. We added two cups of water to ours. We used a popsicle mold but you could always use plastic cups with popsicle sticks.
